Plant Description
The Maitake mushroom is a perennial fungus that can grow to be more than fifty pounds. It is native to parts of Japan and found in North America and Europe. Maitake grows at the base of trees and tree stumps, mostly oak trees. Maitake is referred to as the "dancing mushroom," due to its flowery appearance resembling dancing butterflies.
