Botanical Name: Equisetum Arvense
Horsetail has traditionally been used as a folk remedy for kidney and bladder troubles, arthritis, bleeding ulcers, and tuberculosis. Topically, horsetail was used to stop the bleeding of wounds and to promote rapid healing.

Horsetail contains the active contituents silicic acid and silicates, and is rich in potassium, aluminum, manganese, and multiple types of flavonoids and saponins. The flavonoids and saponins act as diuretics, and the silicon helps strengthen connective tissue and relieve arthritis. The silicon may also have beneficial effects for bone and cartilage formation. Many people use horsetail for the treatment of brittle nails.
