Botanical Name:ruscus aculeatus
The bundled branches of this plant were used by butchers as brooms, hence the name Butcher's Broom. Ancient physicians used the roots as a diuretic in the treatment of urinary problems.

The active constituent in Butcher's Broom, saponins, help improve the strength and tone of the veins and act as mild diuretics. It also has a mild anti-inflammatory effect. Used alone, or in combination with Vitamin C and Flavonoids, Butcher's Broom shows beneficial improvements in the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).
