Botanical Name: Citrus Aurantium
Zhi Shi Facts
Zhi Shi is the traditional Chinese medicine name for the immature, unripe fruit of a citrus family plant (tree) called Citrus Aurantium, also known in other parts of the world as bitter orange, green orange, sour orange, or Seville orange. Its natural habitat is India and China, but it is also cultivated in Spaid and Madeira. Extracts of this fruit are also marketed under the brand name Advantra Z. This fruit is a rich source of vitamins and minerals and contains other substances that facilitate weight loss and additional healthy benefits.
How Zhi Shi Works
Zhi Shi contains synephrine, tyramine, octopamine, hordenine and n-methyltyramine. These constituents, especially the active ingredient synephrine, act as a mild stimulant that boosts the metabolic rate, expends calories and increases energy. This stimulation of the fat metabolism does not have negative cardiovascular or central nervous system effects, since only the beta-3 receptors are stimulated, without affecting the other alpha and beta receptors related to heart rate and blood pressure. The substances tyramine and octopamine play an important role in controlling and suppressing the appetite. This combined thermogenisis makes this herb a safe and effective weight loss aid.
